Most Lavish Celebrity Weddings
For most people, your wedding day is the one time you can afford to be a little bit lavish. But, if you’re already a world-famous multi-millionaire, you can really afford to go all out. Here are five of the most expensive and luxurious weddings that the world has ever seen.
5. Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt
Brad and Jen tied the knot in 2000, after two years of dating. Their big day is reported to have cost around $1 million – more than most of us could dream of but roughly the same amount that Jennifer earned for one single episode of Friends. For a while the couple were considered one of Hollywood’s rare success stories – that is, until they filed for divorce 5 years later.
4. Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier of Monaco
A list of luxurious weddings wouldn’t be complete without mention of film siren Grace Kelly. Grace wore one of the most iconic wedding dresses in history, a gown that cost $8,000 in 1956. In today’s terms, that would be around $68,000. The dress was made with 100 yards of fine silk and 25 yards of taffeta, and has served as the inspiration for countless brides since. Grace married Prince Rainier III of Monaco, and her new title of Princess Consort meant she couldn’t continue her successful acting career.
3. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
One of the world’s most famous couples, the pair had been friends for a long while, but only began dating in 2012. They wed just two years later in a lavish ceremony held in Florence, Italy. The nuptials are reported to have cost a staggering $12 million dollars, and Kim’s dress was designed by stylist to the stars Michael Costello.
2. Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries
Most of us ordinary folk only get expensive wedding in our lifetimes, but, as you probably know, Kim Kardashian is far from ordinary. Before marrying Kanye, Kim got hitched to NBA player Kris Humphries in 2011, after less than a year of dating. The pair’s lavish ceremony regularly features in ‘most expensive celebrity wedding’ lists, with the day costing an estimated $10 million. The pair reportedly spent $10,000 dollars on invitations alone, and Kim’s diamond encrusted headdress cost a whopping $2.5 million. However, the pair are more living proof that an expensive wedding doesn’t always equal a happy marriage as they divorced just 72 days later.
1. Prince William and Kate Middleton
It’s understandable that the heir to the British throne would have a suitably lavish wedding. Held at Westminster Abbey and televised to millions across the UK, the total cost of the big day is estimated to be in the region of £20 million. Kate’s wedding ring alone cost £11,000, and the bulk of the cost is said to have been spent on security throughout the day (including paying police officers double for working on a UK bank holiday!).
