ome couples don't need a grand gesture to mark a decade together. They just need the right people, the right place, and a day that finally matches everything they've been building.
For Dee and Brendan, that day was a long time coming — and worth every minute of the wait.
Dee is the founder of Madeeka Hair, a prestigious Perth salon. Brendan is a partner at award-winning financial brokerage firm Portfolio Finance. They got engaged in 2013 on the Freycinet Peninsula in Tasmania, overlooking Wineglass Bay — one of the most beautiful spots in Australia. And exactly ten years later, on the same anniversary date, they finally held the wedding they'd been dreaming of.
The requirement? Intimate. In Bali.
Finding the Venue
Dee spent months comparing venues before landing on Puri Temple Hill. "I compared every single venue to it for months," she says. "We finally decided it was the perfect venue for us."
Two things sealed it: the estate itself — private, beautiful, with spaces that flowed effortlessly from one to the next — and the food. "All of our friends know us as major food lovers," Dee explains. "Opia Bali was the perfect match for us." So committed were they to the venue that they booked it before even seeing it in person.
The Look: Understated Luxury
Dee wore a Karen Willis Holmes Fontanne gown — statement beading, subtle and stunning — with an attached cape veil for the ceremony. Her jewellery was timeless: fine handmade diamond teardrop earrings and bespoke rings from Melbourne jewellers Timothy Sethna. Her shoes? Jimmy Choos, naturally.
Being a hair salon owner, Dee had briefly entertained doing her own wedding hair. She's glad she didn't. Makeup by Nofi handled everything, allowing her to simply sit back and be present.
Her bouquet, created by Unique Bali Decor, was long-stemmed and architectural — white peonies and Peruvian roses in an Ikebana-inspired style. "Timeless and elegant," she says. "That was always the vision."
Brendan wore a custom Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo, Gucci loafers, and a Tag Heuer Carrera x Porsche watch. He looked exactly as you'd expect.
The Week Leading Up to It
If the wedding was the centrepiece, the week around it was a celebration in its own right. Dee and Brendan took their guests to a Formula One Racing Series in Singapore and a Post Malone concert before everyone made their way to Bali. When they arrived, the focus shifted entirely to the people they love.
"Part of our goal for the weekend was to spend as much time as possible with friends and family," says Brendan. "Getting that time with loved ones between all of the weekend's events was precious."
The First Look
After an extended engagement and nearly nine years together, the first look — during which Dee and Brendan exchanged private vows — carried more weight than either of them had anticipated. A rainy forecast had added some nerves to the morning.
"The sun coming out and finally seeing each other dressed was a huge sigh of relief for both of us," Dee says. "And the beginning of the most perfect day I couldn't even compare to any of my inspiration boards."
The Ceremony & Reception
The ceremony unfolded in Puri Temple Hill's chapel, surrounded by the lotus pond and the sweeping views of the Jimbaran hills. Small, intentional, deeply personal — exactly what Dee and Brendan had asked for.
The reception followed through the estate's spaces — cocktails in the gardens, dinner in the limestone terrace, the evening glowing with warmth and the particular energy that only comes from a room full of people who genuinely love the couple they're there to celebrate.
The couple celebrated their union with free flowing Chandon Brut and a myriad of other bites and delicious delights at their extended cocktail hour, which gave guests extra time to take photos, record their audio messages in the vintage london phone booth, and enjoy the Opia gardens while listening to Lydia Rose jazz it out. They offered passed apertivos, and chose signature cocktails.
Brendan and Dee had a special area for kids, where they had a magic session and treasure hunt, complete with nannies and also a Disney Channel movie time, so the parents can enjoy the cocktail hour and reception! This was above and beyond.
The group moved to the venue’s beautiful limestone area , where walls of ivory rocks created another space for dinner. Attendees sat at four tables, flanked with stunning florals from orchids to baby breaths. White tiffany chairs added modern flair to the romantic tablescapes, which were topped with white clear chargers, silver flatware, white candles, and stunning center pieces.
Steak and Lobster, of course, was on the menu, along with other Opia Staples. “We wanted lots of food! I wanted this to be the best food and wine anyone has ever had at any wedding” says the bride. Dinner extended well into the night; live musicians and saxophones and DJ Sammy on the decks set the tone for the romantic meal.
The pair's reception became the backdrop for one of their favorite wedding memories. "Brendan and I had a moment at dinner where we stepped out to admire the sunset and view. We turned back around to look at all of our friends and family who made the long journey to celebrate with us in Italy and it made me so emotional," says Christine. "To see so many beautiful people from different phases of our lives all interacting with each other in the same space was so special—and definitely a moment I’ll remember forever."
The couple’s massive wedding cake was so cool, most of their guests thought it was fake. “We wanted a grand, three tier cake with a more minimal design,” shares the bride of the confection’s ruffled buttercream exterior. “Our cake was exactly like we imagined and it was even more delicious than it looked!”
Another big-day highlight? The pair’s first dance to “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” which was another surprise for their guests followed by huge FIREWORKS. “Everyone expected just a cute moment between me and Brendan, but we incorporated a few dips, a spinning lift, and a waltz that had the crowd cheering like crazy!”
